Service-page architecture: the menu, the intent and one path to an enquiry

Y.Emre Konar · service page information architecture

Architecture states which question the menu answers and that the enquiry has one path. The same job does not sit three ways in the menu.

Service-page architecture writes which commercial question the menu answers, and that the enquiry has one path. If the same job sits three ways in three menus, the buyer and search both split. In discovery, HED Creative builds the page list from intent. The menu is not copied from an agency list of service sentences. Berlin and Ankara approve the same list.

One page, one intent

Each service page carries one question: what will be done, for whom, what is delivered, where the enquiry goes. A heading called digital solutions is not a question. Software, a portal, a company site and ads are separate pages when they are separate intents. The same intent is not repeated on two URLs. If it is, one address is the canonical one and the other points to it. An international brief should see this list kept short. A short list makes the decision faster.

The menu does not tire the buyer

Six items on the top level are enough: what we do, who it is for, work, writing, office, enquiry. A third level opens only when a dealer network or a product family is genuinely a separate question. The enquiry does not shout from every corner of the menu. It sits at the end of the page and on the relevant record. A button in every corner does not multiply the path. It makes the path unclear.

The internal link is the enquiry path

A page links to the related service, the related product and one form. A pile of related posts is not an enquiry path. The anchor is the question the page answers, not a promise. Where a language twin exists, the link stays inside that language. A German page does not drop the buyer onto a Turkish form. If it does, the buyer sends the scope to the wrong office.

The list the scope can show

Architecture is a list, not a slide: URL, question, form, language. A request for a new page does not go live until it is on that list. A short list speeds approval. The two offices do not open two menus. One accountable partner keeps one list. A page that is not on the list is not part of the job, even if it was described in a meeting.

To see the list in writing, start at website development. If the intent is also how people search, the SEO scope uses this list. The product side: industrial product catalogue.

Questions companies ask

How many service pages?

As many as there are intents. The same question does not sit on two URLs. Discovery keeps the list short. A short list speeds the decision.

Do we open a third menu level?

Only when a dealer network or a product family is a separate question. Otherwise two levels are enough. The decision is written on the list.

Is writing a top menu item?

Writing can sit there. A pile of posts is not the enquiry path. The service page links to the form. That link is visible in the scope.

Who approves a new page?

It does not go live until it is on the list. Berlin and Ankara approve the same list. Email is enough.

Does language split the menu?

Each language builds its menu from the pages in that language. A German page does not drop onto a Turkish form. That drop is an error line.
