Website Care After Launch: Why Visibility Quietly Drops

Y.Emre Konar · website maintenance after launch

Launch is a handover. Visibility is operations: patches, crawl, forms. “We’ll support you” without an SLA is how rankings die in silence.

Website care is often one line on a quote. Three months later the form returns 500, Google drops a thin URL, and nobody opened Search Console. Launch is a delivery. Visibility is a cadence.

What care actually covers

Patches, backups, uptime, broken forms, SSL, framework updates — plus crawled URLs, 404s, slow mobile. “We also write content” is a second queue. Mix them and nothing ships. HED Creative splits the queues in discovery.

Why rankings slip

A staging noindex stays live. New JS will not crawl. Canonicals collapse to home. Without care these sit for weeks. Paid search uses the same URLs; a broken landing burns ads too.

Support is not an SLA

“Email us” does not page anyone at midnight. Response time, who deploys, whose repo — write it down. If you have an in-house team, the partner carries patches and the visibility spine. If not, care is your only second line.

Monthly rhythm

A short report: what was patched, which URL was not crawled, how many proposals the form sent. Not a rank theatre. Berlin and Ankara share one backlog.

Put care on the launch quote

Ninety days unowned after a new site or relaunch makes a cheap launch expensive. In a partner model the care queue is priced up front.

Paste the live URL in the form. Twenty minutes shows the gap — then a proposal.

Questions companies ask

Monthly or yearly care?

Monthly is more honest for patches and crawl. A yearly visit misses the index. We write capacity as a queue, not vague hours.

Is content included?

Usually not. Security/crawl is one queue; commercial articles another. Same partner, separate lines, if you want both.

Only WordPress?

No. Next.js or another stack still needs patches, crawl and a working form. A locked theme with no repo access is not care.

We have an internal team?

They know the product; we add patch standard and the Google/GEO layer. We do not replace them.

How often do we get a report?

Monthly: patches, uncrawled URLs, form. Search Console access if you share it.
